Reminder that there will be no swimming on the following dates:

· Tuesday, February 26^th

· Thursday, February 28^th

· Tuesday, March 5^th

· and Thursday, March 7^th

On March 5^th the coaches have planned a movie day, since there will be no swimming. It will be held in the Sky View Drama room. They will be sending a permission slip home on Wednesday or Friday. The movie is called “Pride”. It is an inspirational swimming movie and is rated PG. Swimmers will not be allowed to watch it if they don’t turn in the parent signed permission slip.

· Spring Ball, Friday, April 19^th

· Swim-a-thon, Friday, April 26^th, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.

· Closing Awards Ceremony and Banquet, to follow Swim-a-thon, Friday, April 26^that 6:30 p.m. (More information will be coming shortly.)

Short Course & Long Course

A short course pool is 25 yards (or, occasionally, 25 meters) long; a long course pool is 50 meters long. The majority of swimming competition in America, and the majority of the pools, are short course yards, while in other parts of the world, meter-length pools and long course competition are more prevalent. Most U.S. national and major international championships -- such as World Championships and the swimming competition at the Olympic Games -- are held at the long course distance.

The annual swimming calendar in the U.S. is divided into two seasons. From September to March, virtually all competition is short course.

April through August is long course season. During this period, swimmers train at, and meets are offered at, the long course distance whenever possible.
