April 2013

Important Dates:
-Spring Ball  April 19th  4:00 pm
        13 and under swim meet.  We will need parent help, watch for an
        email with the online sign-ups
-Swim-a-thon April 26th 4:00-6:00 pm
         Fundraiser that will benefit both the club and your swimmer
-Season Banquet, April 26th 6:30 p.m.  Watch for food assignments

Advanced swimmers, early morning swim will be available this summer.  Plan now to attend.

March Gator Gab Newsletter

 Reminder that there will be no swimming on the following dates:
·         Tuesday, February 26th
·         Thursday, February 28th
·         Tuesday, March 5th
·         and Thursday, March 7th
On March 5th the coaches have planned a movie day, since there will be no swimming.  It will be held in the Sky View Drama room.  They will be sending a permission slip home on Wednesday or Friday.  The movie is called “Pride”.  It is an inspirational swimming movie and is rated PG.  Swimmers will not be allowed to watch it if they don’t turn in the parent signed permission slip.

·         Inter-squad Meet, End of March, Date TBD
·         Spring Ball, Friday, April 19th
·         Swim-a-thon, Friday, April 26th, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.
·         Closing Awards Ceremony and Banquet, to follow Swim-a-thon, Friday, April 26that 6:30 p.m.  (More information will be coming shortly.)

UPCOMING EVENTS and MEETS:
          • NO PRACTICE DAYS: Thursday, Jan.3 and Thursday, January 17 (SV home meets)
          • Monthly Parent Meeting: Monday, JANUARY 14th in the pool lobby at 5:00
          • Gator Team Intrasquad Meet:  tentatively scheduled for Friday, January 18 during practice.
          • Bridgerland Open: February 1 – 2 (this big meet is put on by the Gators, but held at the Mountain                
             Crest pool).  All parents are expected to help with  this meet in some way.
         • State Championships: March 6-9
         • Beehive Finale (B/C Meet): March 13-16
          Information, event entries and sign-up deadlines  will be emailed as we have the information.


BRIDGERLAND OPEN IS COMING UP!

     Trish Andersen and Melissa Neiderhauser need parent volunteers for the Bridgerland Open Swim Meet, scheduled for Feb. 1-2 (Friday evening and 2 sessions on Saturday). Every parent needs to help to make this meet a success.  As you look at the list below, please contact Trish/Melissa at logangators@gmail.comand tell her which spot you will fill.


     ALL parents are expected to help with this meet in some way as it is one of our biggest meets of the year
and a great fundraiser for our team. Tentative start times are: Friday: warmup 3:30/meet start 4:15, Sat morning (usually the younger swimmers up to age 12): warmup 8:30/meet start 9:15, Sat afternoon (usually 13 and up): warmup 12:45/meet start 1:30

PRE-MEET HELP:

  • Concession Committee: gather concessions and make sure they are covered during the meet.
  • Meet Sponsors Committee: contact previous sponsors and find more for donations in exchange for advertising in our meet program.
  • Meet Directors Help: We do need another meet director to start training at this meet!

Friday Session:

  • Console (training required)
  • Computer (training required)
  • Compiler (will train!)
  • Lane sheet runner (stand by referee & gather lane sheets at the end of each event & give to computer room) TONI GIBBONS
  • Results runner (post results in the pool lobby as they are available about every 10 min)
  • Hospitality 2 (Every 30 min offer snack to officials & timers /help prepare meals for officials & coaches)
  • Heat winner awards 1 (watch for the winner of each heat & get them a cookie certificate)
  • Head Timer (starts 2 stopwatches every race as backup for timers who have a problem)
  • Timer 2 (be ready to step in to relieve a timer)
  • Meet Marshals 2
  • Concessions 2 (sell shirts, psych sheets & concessions)
  • Announcer (announce event & heat info)

      Information on meet events for the swimmers will be sent out by email in the next few weeks.
If you own a business or work for one that would be interested in being a sponsor, please contact Trish or
Melissa as soon as possible. There are different advertising sizes that are placed in the printed program that is sold at the meet. The program also contains all the psych sheets (similar to heat sheets) that spectators purchase (and have lots of time to look through while they sit through the swim meet!)
